The brass quintet with this instrumentation has only been around since the 1950's. That being the case brass players have always longed for composers to write music specifically for our medium. With a new found understanding of how the brass family of instruments work, composers have begun writing profound music for brass quintet. Brass Sect was formed with three members of the Innovata Brass and three members of the Portland Brass - Mike Milnarik being a member of both groups at the time the group was put together. The pairing of members from two very different brass quintets created a melting pot of unbelieveable musical proportion! Brass Sect was born!
Brass Sect has performed music by Kerry Turner, Eric Ewazen, Enrique Crespo, Lauren Bernofsky, and John Cheetham. Look for these and other great composers of brass quintet music at future concerts!
